  Teaching French in Nursery Schools

The young children that I teach are from two and a half years of age to preschool. They come to me hardly speaking English, let alone French and leave knowing how to say their name, age, greetings, counting to 20, colours, animals and simple sentences and much more in a language that is not their mother tongue. They also learn songs such as Happy Birthday (Joyeux Anninversaire) Freres Jacques and others.

Teaching Young Students
Learning should be ALL fun at this tender age. A child who is having fun is a happy child who will readily learn without even knowing it. It is most important not to miss the window of opportunity for learning a second language at this very young age. The child's brain is like a sponge and they will absorb French and English with equal ease.

Children Love to Learn
Your son or daughter will get huge personal pride and satisfaction at being able to come home and tell you, for example, that green is called vert in French. They will also come home singing and if they don't, you may catch them in their bedroom/car etc speaking, singing or counting to themselves in French (this is often reported to me by parents). A child may not say anything for ages and out of the blue they will surprise you and fill you with pride by saying something in French. I could tell you many stories related to me by satisfied parents whose child has said something in French.

Some facts about my teaching methods:
• I teach French through play, songs, colouring, video watching and anything else that may appeal to their sense of fun and help them learn
•  I teach term time only and my charges are very reasonable
• The lesson will last half an hour. Their concentration span is too short to make the lesson longer
•  I follow a theme which I change every half term
• You will receive a sheet at the beginning of each half term giving you the detail of each lesson in French and English. You will also know what word will be introduced in the lessons
•  There is a lot of repetition so that the young learner may become familiar with the word or sentence introduced

The Learning Process
The words have therefore been reinforced for several weeks and the lesson has been learnt. Over the next months we will do other things where the same animals will be seen again and the video will be watched again - firstly because the children like the cartoon and secondly it is good to hear the words spoken again.

Recommendations
We are recognised and throroughly recommended by Dimples Day Nursery and Hickory House Nursery - both of which have been awarded Outstanding - the highest acheivable grade from Ofsted, as well as the wonderful nursery Dawn to Dusk.
